Journal for 24-Sep-2003 : Kumarina

Slept through the alarm, so we had a late start.

Lots of oversized loads on the road, as heaps of stuff is being shipped up to the new Hope Downs mine.

Light SE winds to start with, then an Easterly, turning NE, N, NW, W, then finally settled into a SW'er, the direction we're heading.

Nice Mulga scrub country. Lots of gentle rolling hills too, but the country is opening up, compensated for by lots of wildflowers.

Early today we crossed the Tropic of Capricorn.

Overtaken by 50 cars at once, all neatly stacked, crushed on the back of a roadtrain.

DJF fell asleep at lunch.

We rode 5 sessions today, with the 4th and 5th rather difficult because of the headwinds.

At one point an oncoming roadtrain thundered towards around a bend mostly on our side of the road. This can happen if the driver is reading a magazine.

Not so friendly dog (yappy little terrier) at the Kumarine roadhouse.
