Journal for 5-Jul-2003 : Bundaburg |
---|
Left Hervey Bay via back route, and made it to highway at a town with an unfortunate name of "Howard". Highway to Childers not much fun. Shoulder of the road very narrow in places. Met an Aussie guy (sorry, we didn't get his name) enjoying his first bike tour, Brisbane to Bundaburg). From Childers we took the Goodwood road (via a place called Goodwood - and I didn't make that up) very narrow and a bit up and down to start with. We met a dutch couple cycling their 28" wheel dutch bikes from Cairns to Sydney after having ridden Darwin to Alice Springs. Those guys must really love headwinds :-). The last 25-30ks were dead flat through the cane fields and we had the sweetest of tail winds. This is the first 100+ day where we finished before dusk!
Rode around Bundy to the supermarket just in time. This is Queensland, so everything is shut on Sunday, and most things close early on Saturday too. After that, had enough time to take a few sunset photos of the Burnett River.
