Journal for 18-Jun-2003 : Nambucca Heads |
---|
Not so cold this morning, but a bit overcast. Rode into a head breeze with a bit of light drizzle to get back to the highway. Decided to try a few detours to cut off bits of the highway. Every one presented us with a series of ridiculously steep hills on roads so patched and potholed it was impossible to identify the original road surface. We managed to pass 4 separate water towers on our detours. The downhills weren't too bad, but they inevitably ended with a long plank (ie get off and walk) bridge. The scenery was pretty good too, with great vistas over the flat highway route.
Had trouble navigating Nambucca Heads. Went for a walk around town, got lost, and ended up walking back to Caravan Park via the highest point in town, the water tower.
Dinner at the bowling club a bit disappointing too, more befitting a nursing home. Tomorrow we'll adopt a "stay on the highway" policy for the run to Coffs.
