Journal for 15-Oct-2003 : Northam |
---|
Early start and reach "the hill" a few Ks out of Midland. Divided road but no shoulder and guttering, so a bit scary when being passed by a truck being passed by a bigger truck.
At the top of the hill we rode past the John Forrest National Park detour, which was a bit of a mistake. We soon turned off (requiring us to climb "the hill" again, bit we rode up a pleasant valley through little rural suburbs like Parkerville, Chidlow, Mt Helena, Wooroloo, and ending up on the highway at Bakers Hill. Centipedes all over the road as we climbed the various hills.
Highway not as bad as it could have been, but dodging trucks is never as fun as it sounds. Northam probably a bit too soon to be pulling stumps for the day, but we both have hay fever, our legs are full of lactic from the hills and Northam is such a nice looking place we decided to stay. It sits on the Avon River (which becomes the Swan Rv in Perth).
Excellent meal at Fitzgerald's pub.
