Journal for 16-Nov-2003 : Wartook (Grampians) |
---|
A tough day today, with a scything southerly wind making riding difficult all day. The hills as we approached the Grampians just iced the cake.
Lush looking rural country, which we crossed on some Victorian back roads. One of the roads was just a single lane of bitumen for three hours. It was not a problem as we only saw 2 cars on it.
We startled a large goanna foraging on the road verge. It panicked, and climbed up the nearest tree. Well, it tried to climb the tree, getting just over a metre up before it's super sharp claws stripped the tree's bark, sending it somersaulting back to earth. A natural experience and comic relief all in one.
