Journal for 8-Jul-2003 : Rockhampton |
---|
Grey Kangaroos foraging by the camp ground at dawn.
Entirely along the Bruce Highway to Rocky today. Not much wind at all today, but what there was of it was right behind us. Still lots of trucks and other traffic. Lots of cattle in the paddocks by the road, and a few real cowboys mustering them on horseback.
Arrive at the Tropic of Capricorn at the Visitor Information centre. Rockhampton bills itself as the Beef Capital of Australia, as does Casino in NSW. Rockhampton wins because it has hundreds of plaster bulls promoting every second business in the town, as well as a few cast-iron bulls for the town's important statues.
