Journal for 7-Jun-03 : Shelly Beach |
---|
First day today, and by necessity a long one. Rode from my mum's place at Killara to my sister's place at The Entrance.
After the insanity of the previous week, we slept in till 7, and didn't get on the road till 8:30am. My (non cycling) mum kept coming up with useful directional tips ("just use the highway!"), without understanding why we're not so keen on dodging trucks and busses on heavily trafficked roads.
Beautiful sunny day, but chilly SW breeze from the snow fields. I'd heard the old highway near the Hawksbury river was very nice for cycling, but today it was fan-bloddy-tastic !!! Great twisting winding descents and relatively gentle climbs with scenery to die for. Last time we did this ride was more than 10 years ago, and it bucketed down with rain the whole time. I didn't see a thing, and left me with an unfair negative impression.
Wasted by Mt White. Even more wasted by Somersby after unexpected climbing on the Wiseman's ferry rd. Nice vegi-burgers though.
Fast flying down the freeway to Ourimbah. Boring, slow lakeside bike path to my sister Jo's place at Shelly Beach (The Entrance).
