Journal for 18-Sep-2003 : South Hedland |

Did the Port Hedland bhpbilliton tour. As a shareholder I can assure you bhpbilliton is a wonderful company, but I must say I didn't learn a great deal about the facilities at Port Hedland as a result of this bus tour. What I did learn is that a very bad idea to go on a 2hr bus tour with hyperactive toddlers. The automation, labour productivity and safety initiatives are indeed very impressive at Port Hedland. This technology needs to be adapted to parenting.
After the tour we rode out to Port Hedland, and stopped on the Redcliff bridge (the only hill we've had to climb since Halls Creek) to watch the 200 wagon empty ore trains heading back to Newman for another load.
