Journal for 2-Dec-2003 : Sale |
---|
We got a reasonably early start today, on the road before 8:00am.
Lots of stiff headwind today, and overcast threatening skies.
Lots of traffic on the back roads today too. We picked up a tourist map based on the old RACV map, that showed a lattice of minor bitumen roads through this central section of Gippsland. Off the designated state roads the traffic evaporated.
Started singing "cows with guns" to myself as we passed the sign pointing to Cowwarr.
Stopped at Nambrook cricket field for a pee. We stayed for over an hour as a brutal thunderstorm crashed through us.
After 70km we were looking for a spot for a rest, and respite from the headwinds and spitting rain. We found nothing but a sign: "Sale, 6km". With the prospect of slogging another 70km into the wind, we decided to go bale out and just ride to Sale.
Sale has an RAAF training base, and periodically a trio of training planes buzzed us in formation.
